You've Selected Custom Online Databases

There are two approaches to developing an online database accessed through your web site. At Triskelon, we call these approaches “web 2.0” and “custom solutions”. Which applies in your case? Here's a simple rule of thumb to help you decide:

What kind of access to your database should your web visitors (clients) have?

  1. If your database is meant to contain confidential information which should not be publicly viewable, and your web visitors (clients) need read/modify access to your database, then each web visitor must have a login in order to individually grant them access and keep your database secure. In this case, choose a “custom solution”.

  2. On the other hand, if your database is meant to contain confidential information which should not be publicly viewable, and your your web visitors (clients) only need to contribute to the database, such as to originate an inquiry, application, or simple order (examples of write-only access), then logins for each client are not required because no one but you is meant to read the database. In this case, choose our “web 2.0” approach and order a service package under the heading “Online Forms & Databases”.

  3. Finally, if your database is not meant to contain any confidential information, for example a guest book, then choose our “web 2.0” approach and order service package(s) under the heading “Online Forms & Databases”.
