Can I Trust an Answer Received?

I feel it is important not to impair freedom of mind, so I won't trick or deceive you. I feel it is important to respect the journey each person is travelling, so I won't "play God" or toy with your life. I feel it's important not to impair freedom of choice, so I won't pressure you, and neither will the Sage of the I Ching. What we will do is hear you, help you slow down and get in touch with what really matters, and give you relevant food for thought and an overview you might not otherwise see.

The I Ching has made a difference in my life. It's power is real. And handling it well is a sacred duty to me. I feel a duty not only to comfort you, but also to admonish you if and when I am called to do so. So I am not one who will tell you just what I think you want to hear.

Not only do I respect the divinity within the seeker who holds a question, but also the divinity within the Sage of the I Ching who holds an answer. (These may be one and the same; as some say the question and answer come from different parts of the self.) The I Ching brings these parts together. It builds bridges, reminds us of balance in all things, and helps us get unstuck so that we can once again flow with the river of life.

Facilitating this process is a sacred privilege to me, which I take seriously. I will not frivolously inject my preferences into your serious concerns, and pray that any prejudices I may yet have will not impact upon you.

I trust the I Ching's answers because, over time, I have seen a pattern of meaningful and trustworthy answers given. Until you develop a series of pertinent experiences, how can you trust or mistrust anything?

I suggest giving the I Ching a try, and see where it takes you. After doing this a few times, then a pattern will emerge and this can form a basis upon which to decide for yourself whether it's answers are trustworthy.

In the meantime, think of it as an opportunity to get additional food for thought about your situation. You do not have to believe in the I Ching in order for it to work; but you do have to be able to temporarily suspend disbelief. And as with any sacred book, the I Ching requires due respect.

As free choice is a universal constant in all realms, any answer you might receive from the I Ching is never meant to substitute for free choice. The universe doesn't work that way. So don't think of it as being told what to do. Don't imagine that the responsibility for your decisions lies beyond yourself with God or your ancestors or fate. Rather think of an answer from the I Ching as an opportunity to get in touch with your higher self, see from a higher vantage point, and find how to get the life you really want and deserve.
