is the I Ching?Life flows like a river, always changing. Since the current moves faster than ever in today's world, bringing many changes to our lives, the Book of Changes, or I Ching, is a valuable source of guidance and support in dealing with some of life's unexpected turns. The I Ching is an ancient book. Like the Bible, the Quran, and the Bhagavad Gita, the I Ching is sacred scripture. However, unlike these books, it is also an oracle; that is, a means to find answers to specific questions. But some may ask: How can a mere book know what we are asking, much less which verse is pertinent to the question? The I Ching itself speaks of a Sage who provides answers to our questions by means of the book. Who is the Sage of the I Ching? Is he God? Is he a loving ancestor? Is he universal mind? Or does he represent the seeker's own higher self? Perhaps when we are consulting the I Ching, we are merely getting in touch with our own soul. Andrew does not attempt to answer who the Sage is. Rather it is up to you, the seeker, to answer this for yourself in whatever way Spirit inspires you. It is enough for me to know that the Sage is wise and helpful and loving; that he requires our respect if we are to receive his help; and that the operation of Spirit within our daily lives is a real possibility when we open ourselves to it. The I Ching is a means by which to open ourselves to Spirit. |
